Sample Additional Practice Exercise 1

Color counters to add 1 more counter to the row than the row before, and then write the number to tell how many.

2 rows of 5 counters each. A row of 5 counters with no counters colored. The number 0 is written next to the row. A row of 5 counters with 1 counter colored. The number 1 is written next to the row.

A row of 5 counters with 2 counters colored. The number 2 is written next to the row.

The row before has 1 colored counter. 1 more than 1 is 2. So, color 2 counters. Then write 2 at the end of that row.

Ask your child to count the numbers from 0 to 5 in order and then count back from 5 to 0.
