Sample Additional Practice Exercise 1
Count the cubes. Write the numbers to tell how many. Then draw a circle around the number that is greater than the other number. Mark an X on the number that is less than the other number.
The number 2 is written next to a cube. The number 4 is written next to another cube. The number 2 is marked with an X. The number 4 is circled.
Count one color cubes. There are 2 of one color, so write 2. Count the other color cubes. There are 4, so write 4. When you count, 2 comes before 4. So, 2 is less than 4, and 4 is greater than 2. Mark an X on 2 and circle the 4.

Small Objects, Pencil, Paper
ACTIVITY
Gather 10 objects, such as buttons or straws. Show 4 objects randomly on a table. Ask your child to make a group of 2 objects. Have your child write numbers to tell how many are in each group and explain which group is greater in number and which group is less in number.
