Sample Additional Practice Exercise 1

Compare the groups and draw a circle around the group of counters that is greater in number.

A group of 6 counters and a group of 1 counter. Lines match 1 counter in each group. The group of 6 is circled.

To compare groups, draw lines between the counters in the top group and the counters in the bottom group. There is only 1 counter in the bottom group, so only 1 line can be drawn. The top group of counters is greater in number because there are extra counters that cannot be matched to counters in the bottom group. Circle the top group of counters.

Draw Bigger and Smaller Groups

MATERIALS

Paper, Pencil

ACTIVITY

Draw a group of up to 9 dots. Ask your child to draw a group that has more dots than your group of dots and a group that has fewer dots than your group of dots. Then, compare the groups by matching the counters in each group.
