Sample Additional Practice Exercise 1

Draw counters in the ten-frames to show each number. Draw a circle around the number that is greater than the other number.

6 counters in a 10-frame. Then 7 counters in a ten frame. 7 is greater.

To show 6, draw 5 dots in the first row of the ten-frame and 1 dot in the bottom row. To show 7, draw 5 dots in the first row of the ten-frame and 2 dots in the bottom row. There are more dots in the ten-frame that shows 7, so 7 is greater than 6. Circle the 7.

Pennies, Nickels, Pencil, Paper

ACTIVITY

Give your child 10 pennies and 10 nickels. Write two numbers on a sheet of paper and ask your child to show the two numbers using the coins. Then have your child draw a circle around the number that is greater, mark an X on the number that is less, or draw a circle around both numbers if they are equal.
