Sample Additional Practice Exercise 1

Draw a circle around the animals that have beaks, and then mark an X on the animals that do NOT have beaks.

8 animals. The parrot, swan, pelican, and flamingo are circled. An X is on the zebra, the meerkat, the lion, and the monkey.

Sort these animals into two groups: those that have beaks and those that do not have beaks. Circle the 4 birds because they each have a beak. Draw an X on the zebra, the meerkat, the lion, and the monkey because they do not have beaks.

Pennies, Silver-Color Coins

 

ACTIVITY

Show your child 2 categories of objects that are different in at least one way. For example, show 6 silver coins and 4 coins that are NOT silver. Ask your child to classify the objects and explain his or her reasoning. Repeat the activity with other categories using up to 10 objects.
