Sample Additional Practice Exercise 1

Four fish swim in the water. Six more join them. How many fish are there in all?

 

Use connecting cubes to show the addition, draw a picture, and write an equation.4 cubes and 6 cubes. Below is written the equation 4 plus 6 equals 10.

Put 4 cubes together and draw 4 cubes for the first 4 fish. Then put 6 cubes together and draw another 6 cubes for the 6 fish that join them. Write the addition equation: 4+6=10.
