Sample Additional Practice Exercise 1

Look at the picture. Mark an X on the object that looks like a sphere below the picnic table. Then circle the object that looks like a cylinder beside the tree.

A park with a picnic table and a tree. Under the picnic table is a soccer ball, which has an X on it. Next to the tree is a trash can that is circled.

A sphere is a shape like a ball, so the soccer ball is a sphere. A cylinder has two flat bases shaped like circles, so the trash can is a cylinder.

MATERIALS

Various 2-D and 3-D objects

 

ACTIVITY

Place several items on a table, such as a plate, spoon, fork, cup, and napkin. Have your child tell the position of each object using the following words: above, below, beside, next to, in front of, and behind. For example, your child might say, “The spoon is beside the plate.”
