Sample Additional Practice Exercise 1

Listen to the clues. After each clue, mark an X on any shape that does NOT fit the clue. I do NOT have 4 vertices. I have 3 sides. What shape am I?

A circle, a square, a triangle, and a hexagon. There are Xs on the circle, square, and hexagon. The triangle is circled.

The clues say that the shape does not have 4 vertices, and that it has 3 sides. The circle can be crossed out because it does not have any sides. The square can be crossed out because it has 4 vertices. The hexagon can be crossed out because it has 6 sides. The only shape that fits both clues is the triangle, so it is circled.

HOME ACTIVITY

What Object Am I?

ACTIVITY

Play What Object Am I? with your child. Think of an object in the house, such as a window or a door, and give clues about it. For example: “I have 4 sides and 4 vertices. All my sides are the same length. What shape am I?” Then have your child give you clues about an object.
