Sample Additional Practice Exercise 1

What shapes do you see in the quilt pattern? Do you see any shapes made of other shapes? Use a crayon to trace over any shapes you see that are made from other shapes. Then circle whether you see any triangles, squares, rectangles, or circles.

On the left, a quilt square made up of triangles, squares, and rectangles. A triangle made of two other triangles is traced. A square made of three triangles is traced. A rectangle made of three triangles. On the right, a triangle, square, rectangle, and circle. The triangle, square, and rectangle are circled.

You can see that the quilt square has many triangles, which combine to make other triangles, squares, and rectangles. Circle the triangle, square, and rectangle because those shapes can be found in the quilt square.
