Sample Additional Practice Exercise 1

Use 9 pattern blocks or drawings of triangles to make a larger triangle and then draw the new 2-D shape. A large triangle made of 9 small, identical triangles. The number 9 next to a small triangle.

The smaller triangles can fit tightly together by turning them so their sides and vertices touch without any gaps. Place 5 triangles together in a row, then 3 above that, and then 1 on top.

MATERIALS

Paper, Pencil, Square Shape

 

ACTIVITY

Give your child paper, pencil, and a small square shape, such as a square cracker or a square sticky-note. Ask your child to draw another shape, such as a rectangle, using the square. Repeat with other shapes.
