Sample Additional Practice Exercise 1

Compare the objects. Then match the heavier object to the lower side of the scale and the lighter object to the higher side of the scale.

A feather, a candle, and a balance scale. The feather is matched to the higher side of the balance scale and the candle to the lower side.

The side of the scale with the heavier object moves lower than the side with the lighter object. The candle is heavier than the feather. So, draw a line from the candle to the lower side. Then draw a line from the feather to the higher side.

MATERIALS

Slice of Bread, Assorted Kitchen Items

ACTIVITY

Ask your child to hold a slice of bread. Then ask your child to find something in your kitchen that is heavier than the slice of bread and then something that is lighter than the slice of bread.
