Sample Additional Practice Exercise 1

Count the counters in each double-ten frame, and then write the numbers to tell how many. Then count forward to say each number you wrote.

A double ten-frame with 9 counters; the number 9 is written under it. A double ten-frame with 10 counters; the number 10 is written under it. A double ten-frame with 10 counters in one ten-frame and 1 counter in the other ten-frame; the number 11 is written under it. A double ten-frame with 10 counters in one ten-frame and 2 counters in the other ten-frame; the number 12 is written under it.

Count the counters in the first double ten-frame. There are 9 counters. Write 9. Count the numbers in the next double ten-frame. There are 10 counters. Write 10. Count the numbers in the next double ten-frame. There are 11 counters. Write 11. Count the numbers in the last double ten-frame. There are 12 counters. Write 12. Now read the numbers you wrote: 9, 10, 11, 12.
