Sample Additional Practice Exercise 1

Draw counters to show 11 and write an equation to match the picture. Tell how the picture and equation show 10 ones and some more ones.

A double 10 frame with 10 counters in the first frame and 1 counter in the second. The equation 11 = 10 + 1.

Draw 11 counters. Fill the first ten-frame with 10 of the counters. Then draw 1 more counter in the second ten-frame. So, 11 counters can be shown as 10 counters plus 1 more counter. Write the equation for this: 11=10+1.

ACTIVITY

Have your child sort a group of 12 pencils into one group of 10 pencils and one group of 2 pencils. Discuss how many pencils are in each group and how many pencils there are in all. Repeat with 13 pencils and 11 pencils.
