Sample Additional Practice Exercise 1

Draw counters to show 14 and complete the equation to match the picture. Tell how the picture and equation show 10 ones and some more ones.

A double 10 frame with 10 counters in the first frame and 4 counters in the second. The equation 14 = 10 + 4.

Draw 14 counters. Fill the first ten-frame with 10 of the counters. Then draw 4 more counters in the second ten-frame. So, 14 counters can be shown as 10 counters plus 4 more counters. Write the equation for this: 14=10+4.

ACTIVITY

Draw 14 boxes, and then shade 10 of them. Have your child tell how many boxes there are in all. Then have your child tell how many boxes are shaded and how many boxes are NOT shaded. Repeat with 16 boxes and 15 boxes.
